I liked knowledge, but I loved secrets. I couldn’t even say the word without smiling. I never blackmailed anybody or used classified information against someone—even for my own personal gain. I just liked knowing things other people didn’t. Well really, I liked knowing things I shouldn’t.
My passion gave birth to my own special skill: I could hack any hard drive, tablet, cell phone, or computer. Seriously, CES was like my Christmas.
Walking to AP English I overheard Mr. Garcia say, “Miss O‘Leary has enough on her mind with her brother in hospice, I can’t believe the bank is doing that to her.”
I used my cell phone to enter the backdoor of the Internet. With a few taps of my fingers I discovered The First Bank of Adelphi, the town’s only bank, did not received Miss O’Leary’s mortgage payment. The candy dish filled with fun size Snickers on Miss O’Leary’s desk single handedly got me through the idiotic drama of a small town high school. So before I walked into the classroom, the bank “magically” received payment, waived the late fees and sent her a reminder about their automatic bill pay option.
One hidden gem was all it took to save the day. They’re powerful and made me feel invincible. But the secrets I didn’t know drove me insane. Like why Ryan Masterson refused to talk to me.
