Our mentors are mentoring, our mentees are revising, and we hope you’re making progress on your own manuscript! While we’re all working toward the Agent Showcase starting on February 9, 2021, we hope you’ll take a moment during your writing breaks and get to know our 2021 Pitch Wars Mentor and Mentee Teams.

Next up, we have . . .

S.A. & Rosalie, why did you choose Tiera?

We fell in love pretty much immediately with Tiera’s incredibly gripping opener. The emotions on the page were so palpable, and her innovative magic system had us completely hooked. Add in food descriptions that left us with cravings for days, and we knew we just had to work with her.

Tiera, why did you choose to submit to S.A. & Rosalie?

I chose to submit to S.A. and Rosalie because based on the wishlist they provided, we had similarities in terms of the books we all liked, and that to me indicated they might be fun to work with! Liking the same types of stories is usually a good indicator of success for me with any sort of writing feedback relationship.

S.A. & Rosalie, summarize Tiera’s book in 3 words.

Dark, magical, visceral

Tiera, summarize your book in 3 words.

Dark, stormy, emotional

S.A. & Rosalie, tell us about yourself. Something we may not already know.

We both have a strong planner obsession. We spend a lot of time in our messages sending each other planner spreads in our hobonichis and squealing over cute stickers.

Tiera, what do you hope to get out of the Pitch Wars experience?

I chose to apply to Pitch Wars in the hopes of connecting with a mentor who was equipped to point out things in my writing that I and others may have overlooked, and provide relevant information, advice and support for my project. I also hope to continue to engage with the PW community going forward.

Tiera, tell us about yourself. What makes you and your manuscript unique?

About me – I’m an introverted homebody and coffee drinker who also loves dancing, traveling, learning new languages, and devouring books. I grew up in Marietta, GA and have since lived in Virginia, Idaho and Maryland before settling (for the time being, at least) in northern Utah.

My PW manuscript came from a dark place of rage and despair, and has all my complicated feelings about years of mental health struggles tangled up in it. I wanted to write something that explored how trauma and emotion could be magically weaponized, and how the “ruling class” (those who were fortunate enough to not have those experiences) would react to that type of power. I feel like this story fits in the market in a way that is hard to define or pin down, but I wrote it because it’s exactly what I wanted to read.

Thank you for supporting our Pitch Wars Teams! The Agent Showcase is February 9-14, 2022. Make sure to stop by then and check out all our mentees’ entries when it opens.
