Our mentors are mentoring, our mentees are revising, and we hope you’re making progress on your own manuscript! While we’re all working toward the Agent Showcase starting on February 9, 2021, we hope you’ll take a moment during your writing breaks and get to know our 2021 Pitch Wars Mentor and Mentee Teams.
Next up, we have . . .
LJ Alexander – Mentee
S.A. Simon – Mentor
Rosalie M. Lin – Mentor
S.A. and Rosalie, why did you choose LJ?
We were totally drawn in by LJ’s voice and style, and we saw the potential for this manuscript right away. We communicated several times in emails, asking more and more questions to see how we’d work together, especially with the vision we had, and she was on board every step of the way. We knew we had something special.
LJ, why did you choose to submit to S.A. and Rosalie?
I submitted to S.A. and Rosalie for a few reasons. They were both Pitch Wars 2020 mentees, which meant the experience was fresh in their minds AND they’d both gone on to find agents and start down the publishing path, so they’re guidance would be invaluable. Aside from that, I was excited about the opportunity to work with TWO mentors, both of whom could help me with different aspects of revising and strengthening my manuscript. (They also both agreed that it would be fine to communicate using GIFs and memes.) Go #TeamSobbleStans
S.A. Rosalie, summarize LJ’s book in 3 words.
Heists, betrayal, phoenix
LJ, summarize your book in 3 words.
Rise. Fight. Repeat.
S.A. and Rosalie, tell us about yourself. Something we may not already know.
Rosalie is a devoted plant mom. S.A. has now successfully murdered all of her plants.
LJ, what do you hope to get out of the Pitch Wars experience?
I want to make Mirage the best version of the story that it can be, and Rosalie and S.A. have given me tools to not only help this manuscript, but also those to follow (because I’m clearly a glutton for punishment and plan to keep on writing)!
LJ, tell us about yourself. What makes you and your manuscript unique?
I was born in Romania and moved to the U.S. when I was seven. It wasn’t until later on in life that I really appreciated how much the immigrant experience has shaped who I am today. With my mentors’ guidance, they’ve helped me look for opportunities to integrate elements of my culture into the worldbuilding for Mirage, and it’s not only added a little extra (Balkan) flavor to the story, but also helped me connect with it on a different level!
Thank you for supporting our Pitch Wars Teams! The Agent Showcase is February 9-14, 2022. Make sure to stop by then and check out all our mentees’ entries when it opens.
