Our mentors are editing, our mentees are revising, and we hope you’re making progress on your own manuscript! While we’re all working toward the Agent Showcase starting on February 6, 2019, we hope you’ll take a moment during your writing breaks and get to know our 2018 Pitch Wars Teams.
Next up, we have . . .
Samantha and Laurie, why did you choose Elizabeth?
Elizabeth’s manuscript fit so many items on our wishlist. We asked for YA contemporary, suspense, strong girls who get things done, atmospheric settings, and romance. Game On checks all these boxes! The voice grabbed us from the start, the setting pulled us in, and the twisty goodness kept us turning pages. We also saw ways that our strengths as mentors could complement Elizabeth’s strengths as a writer.
Elizabeth, why did you choose to submit to Samantha and Laurie?
Laurie and Sam have such a fun, supportive, collaborative and calming approach, (things I work well with!), and they are so successful, I hope to learn as much as humanly possible during these pitchwars revision months.
Samantha and Laurie, summarize Elizabeth’s book in 3 words.
Summer. Sisters. Secrets.
Elizabeth, summarize your book in 3 words.
Twisted Scavenger Hunt
Samantha and Laurie, tell us about yourselves. Something we may not already know.
Samantha: Despite visiting a lot of stage doors and attending many comicons, I’m the absolute worst at meeting celebrities. I once told Eliza Dushku, “purple is my favorite color” and when Luke Perry asked my name, I replied with, “Holy crap.” He said, “That’s a funny name.” I actually channeled my own celebrity awkwardness into Elise in FLIRTING WITH FAME. I now try to tell myself to say hello and not be a weirdo. Sometimes it works but most times it doesn’t.
Laurie: Music fuels my soul. I am a huge music fan girl, and I go to see my favorite bands whenever I can. My number one favorite artist right now is Andrew McMahon. He somehow manages to produce one phenomenal, heart-grabbing album after another. And as a birthday present to myself, I get to meet him next year! Cue freaking out. I’m currently planning some smart, witty introduction that will surely never make it out of my mouth.
As you can see, we are almost the same person, which is why we make the perfect co-mentor pair!
Elizabeth, what do you hope to get out of the Pitch Wars experience?
A much stronger manuscript, and note knowledge about the world of writing. Also, to be a part of the great writing community!
Elizabeth, tell us about yourself! What makes you and your manuscript unique?
I accidentally startled Helen Mirren (one of my faves, I was so excited to see her) when I ran up to her. I wrote most of my manuscript with my dog, Gunner. sitting under my chair.
Check out Samantha’s latest release, DEALING IN DECEPTION!
In this companion to Samantha Joyce’s Flirting with Fame, Veronica Wilde finds that playing make-believe isn’t all it’s cracked up to be—especially when it’s keeping her from pursuing the one man who makes her heart go wild.
As an actress-for-hire, Veronica
Wilde has made a living out of pretending to be other people. It’s the
one thing at which she’s always excelled: taking on someone else’s
personality and running with it. So after Elise Jameson, author of the
bestselling Viking Moon series, decides she no longer requires
Veronica’s services, she needs to find a new gig—and fast.
But
when her newest client hires Veronica to help him make his small
business look more successful than it actually is, the sparks that fly
between them are definitely not part of the act. Suddenly,
Veronica finds she’s tired of playing pretend for a living. She’s been
acting for so long, she’s blindsided by the one man who sees her for who
she really is. And the most terrifying part? She might actually like
it.
