Our mentors are editing, our mentees are revising, and we hope you’re making progress on your own manuscript! While we’re all working toward the Agent Showcase starting on February 6, 2019, we hope you’ll take a moment during your writing breaks and get to know our 2018 Pitch Wars Teams.
Next up, we have . . .
Lindsey and Melissa, why did you choose Natasha?
From page one, we were captivated by Tasha’s writing and worldbuilding. We were *there*. We saw the sleek space cruiser, felt the cold emptiness of space, enjoyed the sarcastic banter of an android…she is a brilliant, descriptive writer and we were aching to read more. It was an early favorite for both of us and was one we kept going back to, so we knew we had to have it!
Additionally, Tasha is a lovely person! She was pleasant, respectful, accommodating, receptive, grateful for our feedback, and an all around sweetheart! We’re excited to be working with her.
Natasha, why did you choose to submit to Lindsey and Melissa?
I liked that their strengths were worldbuilding and pitching, two of the things I needed the most help with to get Starling polished and agent-ready.

Lindsey and Melissa, tell us about yourselves. Something we may not already know.
Lindsey: When I really, really, love a book I like to reread the last chapter out loud. It gives me chills to hear the ending for the second time and feel the feels. When I hear my own voice reading the words I love, it just makes me that much more emotional. Two books I’ve done this with are The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan and Winter by Marissa Meyer.
Melissa: I’m a professional dog walker (11 years and counting!) and am usually out and about all day long, which makes it very hard to get any writing in. I wrote 80% of my draft for my current release on my phone using the Word app while walking pups. Gotta make time where you can!
Natasha, what do you hope to get out of the Pitch Wars experience?
I’d love to get an agent! But if not, I’m hoping to take my revising skills to the next level, so that next time I write a book, I’ll be able to make it even better in less time.
Natasha, tell us about yourself! What makes you and your manuscript unique?
Like many future sci-fi lovers, I grew up with Star Wars on repeat. I loved the mix of action, humor, and romance, and I started this manuscript as a love note to the series. However, Starling soon took on a life of its own, and I’ve really enjoyed playing with tropes of the genre to hopefully write something fresh and meaningful.
I’m a mom of two who uses the gym’s childcare to sneak in writing after a token workout (so I don’t feel guilty, heh). I also work at Colorado Public radio as an audio engineer for the daily interview show, Colorado Matters. I’m obsessed with podcasts, especially anything created by NPR or the McElroy brothers. Check out Lindsey’s latest release, KISS OF THE ROYAL!
Princess Ivy has one goal—end the war against the Forces of Darkness.
Ivy’s magic is more powerful than any other Royal’s, but she needs a battle partner who can help her harness it. Prince Zach’s unparalleled skill with a sword should make them an unstoppable pair—if only they could agree on…well, just about anything.
But Ivy’s magic can only fully unlock with Zach’s help, and he’s not exactly cooperating.
Zach believes Ivy’s magic is dangerous. Ivy believes they’ll never win the war without it. Two warriors, one goal, and the fate of their world on the line. But the more they argue, the more they fall for each other. And only one of them can be right…
Check out Melissa’s latest release, THE FORGOTTEN CHILD!
The dead can speak. They need her to listen.
Ever since Riley Thomas, reluctant medium extraordinaire, accidentally released a malevolent spirit from a Ouija board when she was thirteen, she’s taken a hard pass on scary movies, haunted houses, and cemeteries. Twelve years later, when her best friend pressures her into spending a paranormal investigation weekend at the infamous Jordanville Ranch—former home of deceased serial killer Orin Jacobs—Riley’s still not ready to accept the fact that she can communicate with ghosts.
Shortly after their arrival at the ranch, the spirit of a little boy contacts Riley; a child who went missing—and was never found—in 1973.
In order to put the young boy’s spirit to rest, she has to come to grips with her ability. But how can she solve a mystery that happened a decade before she was born? Especially when someone who knows Orin’s secrets wants to keep the truth buried—no matter the cost.
