Our mentors are editing, our mentees are revising, and we hope you’re making progress on your own manuscript! While we’re all working toward the Agent Showcase starting on February 6, 2019, we hope you’ll take a moment during your writing breaks and get to know our 2018 Pitch Wars Teams.
Next up, we have . . .
Meg Long – Mentee
Mia P. Manansala – Mentor
Kellye Garrett – Mentor
Mia and Kellye, why did you choose Meg?
Mia: Kellye and I both fell in love with Meg’s story the minute we read the title. I mean, Cardio for Corpses? How could we not? Luckily, the writing sample more than lived up to our expectations. Her voice was so strong and clear and fun that we knew we had to pick her.
Kellye: What Mia said. I think as soon as I saw the title and read the sample, I sent Mia a note that said “If we don’t request this, I will cry.” Amateur detective novels with a funny MC are our catnip.
Meg, why did you choose to submit to Mia and Kellye?
As soon as I read “Stephanie Plum” on Kellye & Mia’s wish list, I knew they were the ones for me! It was their experience with mysteries, with humor, with crafting good stories — all of it really drew me towards them.
Mia and Kellye, summarize Meg’s book in 3 words.
Mia: Fitness is Deadly
Kellye: Going to tweak Meg’s amaze-balls title a bit and say: Cardio and Corpses.
Meg, summarize your book in 3 words.
Fit for Murder!
Mia and Kellye, tell us about yourself. Something we may not already know.
Mia: I spent almost four years teaching English in a small town in South Korea. I can also do a near flawless rendition of Gangsta’s Paradise at karaoke. The two are somewhat related.
Kellye: I once was a seat filler for the Emmy Awards, which meant I got to sit in a celeb’s seat while they ran out to pee. (If you look at the audience at an awards show, you’ll notice that there’s never an empty seat. That’s because of seat fillers.)
Meg, what do you hope to get out of the Pitch Wars experience?
I really want to learn more about writing and revising. I love analyzing stories and learning about what makes a good story tick and stick with readers!
Meg, tell us about yourself! What makes you and your manuscript unique?
I am a super goofy person who likes nothing more than a good giggle, especially when that giggle (or snort or laughter-induced-tears) comes from a book. My mystery manuscript delivers on the giggles while also packing a lot of heart. It’s set in a small Southern town (much like where I’m from) and features a heroine who tries her hand at fitness reporting but ends up having to solve a murder in order to save her best friend and protect her family.
Check out Kellye Garrett’s recent release, HOLLYWOOD ENDING…
..Dayna Anderson, the semi-famous actress turned PI who steps up her sleuthing swagger in this follow-up to breakout hit Hollywood Homicide, winner of the Lefty Award and the Agatha Award for Best First Novel!
Tinseltown’s awards season is in full swing, and everyone is obsessed with dressing up, scoring free swag, and getting invited to the biggest awards shows of the year. But when celebrity publicist Lyla Davis is killed, the festive mood comes to an abrupt halt.
Apprentice private eye Dayna Anderson thinks she’s uncovered the killer. Unfortunately, what starts as an open-and-shut case turns out to be anything but. Diving deeper into the investigation, Dayna gets a backstage look at gossip blogging, Hollywood royalty, and one of entertainment’s most respected awards shows—all while trying to avoid her own Hollywood ending.
