Meet Elizabeth Briggs and Lyndsay Elys
Team: Team Briggs
Elizabeth Briggs (Mentor), tell us a little about yourself.
I’m Elizabeth Briggs and I write adult contemporary romance and young adult science fiction, thrillers, and fantasy. So basically, just about everything! My writing style is fast-paced and unputdownable – my favorite thing is hearing from readers that they stayed up til 2am reading one of my books! #sorrynotsorry
Lyndsay Elys (Mentee), tell us a little about yourself.
I’m Lyndsay Ely (as in “those eels are looking rather eely today.”) My manuscript is YA, but I like to read and write across genres, with a heavy lean toward speculative and historical fiction. I aspire to Gillian Flynn’s dark, potent prose, J. K. Rowling’s marvelous details, and Warren Ellis’s twisted ideas.
Some other details about me: Comic books led me to study art and design. I love antiques and have an embarrassingly large collection of vintage costume jewelry. My last three Halloween costumes were Lydia Deetz, Cersei Lannister, and Jubilee from the X-men. I have very expensive taste in chocolates, and there are approximately ten kinds of gourmet mustard in my apartment right now. My favorite Ninja Turtle is Michelangelo.
Elizabeth, why did you decide to participate in Pitch Wars?
I’ve mentored in Pitch Wars every single year since Brenda first started it, because I love helping other writers and meeting new people. My previous mentees have all gone on to get book deals, so I couldn’t pass up a chance to mentor again this year! I nearly dropped out this year due to deadlines, but I’m really glad Brenda convinced me to stay!
Lyndsay, why did you decide to participate in Pitch Wars?
I almost didn’t, assuming my manuscript was ineligible. (Always read the rules!) Having participated in other contests, I’ve learned that fresh eyes are invaluable. (And they stay fresh for a while if you store them properly.)
Elizabeth, what are you most excited for?
I’m so thrilled to work with Lyndsay because I absolutely love her book and know we can make it even more amazing than it already is. Plus, it’s great to add another geeky author to the awesomeness that is Team Briggs. My previous mentees and alternates are like a little family now, and I know Lyndsay will fit in perfectly!
Lyndsay, what are you most excited for?
The Suicide Squad and Deadpool movies.
On the Pitch Wars front, I’m excited to try and get my manuscript from “good” to “HBO just optioned it and Peter Dinklage is interested in a part.” Luckily, I’m pretty sure I have just the mentor for the job!
Lyndsay, describe your novel in 3 words.
Gunslinger-girl, lawless city.
Elizabeth, describe your mentee’s novel in 3 words.
Guns, theater, intrigue

MORE THAN FASHION (Chasing The Dream #3) by Elizabeth Briggs …
They’re enemies who will do anything to win…including each other.
When Julie Hong wins a spot on a fashion design reality TV show, she celebrates by picking up a hot English guy in a hotel bar. But too many drinks leads to a night of embarrassment and a major hangover, and wow is she glad she’ll never see him again.
Until the show starts, and he’s on it too.
Julie quickly realizes she’s out of her league among the other designers, and Gavin Bennett, with his cocky grin and sexy accent, is her biggest competition. Julie can’t decide if she wants to kiss him or kill him. Or both.
After she’s almost kicked off, Julie convinces Gavin to pretend they’re sleeping together for the camera. The ploy works, but as they get closer to the show’s finale their fake relationship starts to become too real. But only one of them can win the show—and they might both end up heartbroken.
